East Midland contractors told to lift standards

Work was called to a standstill by safety inspectors at more than 15 per cent of East Midlands refurbishment sites checked by officials.

The Health and Safety Executive revealed today that it had served 11 prohibition notices at East Midlands sites in June and July, with work halted immediately until contractors improved standards.

A further two improvement notices were served - requiring remedial action.

Seventy construction refurbishment sites in the East Midlands were inspected among 1,586 sites across the UK.
