Work at one in three refurbishment sites across London ground to a halt this summer as builders were forced to stop work and improve safety conditions.

The Health and Safety Executive today revealed that it had served 60 prohibition notices at London sites in June and July, with work halted immediately until contractors improved standards.

About 180 construction refurbishment sites were inspected in London among 1,586 inspected across the UK at the same time.
