Barrow and Furness MP John Hutton has revealed plans to invest £2 billion in West Cumbria to turn the area into an 'energy coast'.
Included in the proposals are a new reactor at Sellafield as well as a nuclear training centre.
Money will also be put aside for schools, academies, hospital and transport links in the region.
Mr Hutton said: "The UK, like other countries around the world, is getting into a nuclear renaissance and given that West Cumbria is the home of the UK nuclear industry, we've got a tremendously exciting future ahead of us."
