House client wants green contractors

Contractors with sustainability know-how are being sought for a new £100 million PFI housing scheme that features cuttingedge green technology.

North Tyneside Council has announced it is transforming its sheltered housing with a scheme that will include 12 new builds, one cluster of bungalows, 12 refurbished buildings and seven yet to be announced developments.

The council said it had paired up with Northumbria University to explore the use of sustainable energy and green technology.

Green specialists from the university will be working with bidders to assess best renewable energy technologies.

The council is currently searching for a contractor to build the project.
