Task force for sustainable building code formed

A task group which includes Lend Lease and Willmott Dixon's chief executives has been set up to look at what a code for sustainable buildings should look like and how it should work.

The Government is in the process of developing a scheme that will encourage new buildings to be carbon-zero by 2019.

Representatives from the Communities and Local Government department will be observers on the task force, including Lend Lease CEO Daniel Labbad and Willmott Dixon CEO John Frankiewicz.

UK GBC chief executive and task group chair Paul King said while he was sure that there would be a code for sustainable homes he wasn't sure if it would look or work like the code for homes.

He added that he believe there was a huge appetite in the industry at the moment for sustainability and sixty of their members had asked to be included.

He said: "This had to be whittled down to a manageable number."

The task group will hold a number of formal consultation activities and the group's final recommendations and proposals will be presented at EcoBuild in March 2009.
