ODA to manage temporary venue build

The Olympic Delivery Authority will not procure its four temporary venues as traditional design and build contracts, opting instead to manage the jobs itself.

Head of procurement at the ODA Morag Stuart said that 17 specialist packages would be let separately to build the basketball arena, Eton Manor – which will host tennis and archery, the temporary water polo venue and the BMX track.

Speaking at today's Games Briefing at the Olympia Conference Centre she said: "We decided to manage the construction ourselves. Contractors market appetite to take on risk through a design and build contract isn't there."

The majority of the tenders will be advertised on CompeteFor later this year or early 2009.
