Colin Firth’s ‘fridge guy’ inspiration revealed

The ‘fridge guy’ who actor Colin Firth credited with stopping him turning down the Bafta-winning role in A Single Man has been revealed as Zak Mahri of Wembley-based domestic and commercial refrigeration specialist ADK Kooling.

Mr Mahri, 23, who has been with ADK for three years, arrived to fix Mr Firth’s fridge in Chiswick just as he was emailing to turn down the role as a gay university professor, which has also been nominated for the Best Actor Oscar on 7 March.

Mr Mahri’s time spent fixing the appliance and chatting to Mr Firth caused him to reconsider.

Mr Firth was sufficiently grateful to the ‘fridge guy’ that he invited him to the post Bafta party, but unfortunately Mr Mahri was working when the invitation came in.

When he was contacted, Mr Mahri said he remembered Mr Firth’s fridge. He said: “”He had a Frankie, a big American model which I had never seen before.”

Mr Mahri’s boss at ADK, Omar Idrissi said: “We are delighted with the publicity, but of course now Zak has been asking for a payrise to cope with his new-found fame.”
