Jack Bottomley makes Skillfridge final

Jack Bottomley, employed by GB Air Control in Mirfield, West Yorkshire and a student from Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education, was crowned winner of the SkillFridge semi-finals in April.

Second place went to Stephen Morley from Cotswold Vale Refrigeration Ltd in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire, and third place went to Craig Emonds from Trane UK in Cumbernauld.

All three winners were presented with a certificate and vouchers courtesy of Monument Tools.

Twenty-year-old Jack competed against 16 others from all over the UK at The Centre for the Built Environment at South Birmingham College.

He and the other competitors from the semi-finals achieved the level required to go through to the finals on July 21-23 at South Birmingham College. They will be joined by those who reach the required level from the heats in Northern Ireland.

The ultimate winner will be offered the opportunity to be selected for the WorldSkills competition.

The biennial WorldSkills event is the largest skills competition in the world and attracts around a thousand contestants from more than 50 countries. The 40th World Skills event will be held in Calgary on 1-7 September 2009; the 41st is in London in 2011.
