Waitrose 300 convenience store plan

Waitrose has announced it has the potential for as many as 300 convenience stores throughout the country following successful trials in the last year.

The retailer opened its first convenience branch in Trinity Square, Nottingham last December, and will bring the total to four by the end of this year.

But as well as the 5-7000 sq feet formats already launched, Waitrose said it will trial new 2-4,000 sq ft shops in the new year.

The supermarket said it will also open up a further nine stores as franchises within Welcome Break service stations.
