Exclusive: The tCn Products Twitter 100

Construction News is today exclusively revealing the results of the tCnProducts100 – a list of the most influential building product manufacturers and suppliers using the social media platform Twitter.

Since Construction News first revealed the Top-100 tweeters in the built environment as collated by tCn - the Construction network - (@tCntweets) and Peer Index (@peerindex), the list of names to join Twitter has been a who’s who of the main players in industry.

Tier one contractors like Balfour Beatty, Carillion and Costain all use Twitter to break news on contract wins, but also use it to advertise jobs, detail the work they are doing in Building Information Modelling and more.

However it is the relationship between contractors and suppliers which has exploded most notably in the past six months.

Product manufacturers including Lafarge and Saint-Gobain are joined by insulation, fencing and tiling firms on the tCnProducts100, each of which has a client to attract and a message to spread.

The response to the call for building product manufacturers and suppliers has been huge as marketing specialist Ayann Mohamud of Pauley Creative explains: “’Social media is not a phase. It’s a shift in the way companies can communicate with their customers and prospects.

“The amount of entries received for the tCnProducts100 Product manufacturers on Twitter shows that a large number of companies within the building industry have taken the first steps to adopting social media as part of their marketing strategy.”

Jules Quested-Williams of Built for Marketing said: “Social media should be developed into the strategic marketing plan for all building product manufacturers, in the same way that PR is integrated. It is a platform of networking and interaction with the customer base that cannot be ignored.”

A new resource for the built environment, Products in Construction (@ProductsInCon) has been launched and is powered and run in association with Construction News.

Products in Construction is an in-depth website for the UK Construction industry, listing the details of all the relevant industry suppliers and services.

It covers everything from the UK construction industry including lighting, waste management, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, architecture, air conditioning, engineering and all other aspects of the built environment.

What was the tCnProducts100?

tCn – the Construction network, is an award winning new media organisation who are committed to helping those connected to the UK built environment understand, embrace and utilise new media.

They have created a series of twitter lists in collaboration with social media measuring experts Peerindex to identify the most effective and influential users within specific categories.

The tCn Team searched the ‘twitterverse’ for building product manufacturers and suppliers and published an initial 50 before ‘tweeters’ had the chance to nominate themselves and others and be added.

PeerIndex analysed the twitter activity of those nominated giving them score out of 100 to indicate their effectiveness and influence within their sector.

What now?

Product manufacturers can now promote themselves and their products on tCn’s networking and information sharing website.
