Locog considers creating main contractor role for 2012 overlay
Main contractors may be sought next year to oversee fit-out work across the 2012 Olympic venues.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games is considering appointing established contractors to ensure final preparations run smoothly.
Locog is responsible for preparing and staging the 2012 Games in London, and is beginning the process of overlaying venues created by the Olympic Delivery Authority.
It will hand out several sub-contract-style deals as part of this work for jobs such as erecting fencing and installing electrics.
Locog director of venues and infrastructure James Bulley told CNplus: “We may seek a general contractor to oversee the work, rather like a sub-contractor/main-contractor relationship.
“There could be just one main contractor role or we could break it into packages. We hope to finalise these plans in spring 2010 and move into procurement over next summer.”
