Deutsche Bahn buys Laing Rail

Deutsche Bahn is set to buy Laing Rail for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition by the German state rail operator includes Chiltern Railways as well as Laing’s stakes in the London Overground commuter rail concession and the Wrexham, Shropshire & Marylebone Railway.

A spokesman said DB has confirmed the Chiltern identity and name will remain unchanged and that Adrian Shooter and his management team will remain in control of the company.

Deutsche Bahn is Europe's largest passenger operator, carrying 5.1 million passengers daily.

London Overground Rail Operations Ltd is a 50/50 joint venture between Laing Rail and the MTR Corporation of Hong Kong.
