A slump in aggressive investment in Northern Ireland into its medical and scientific community has seen the value of such work in the province dive.
For 2008 to the end of July, Glenigan put the value of work in medical and scientific at just £6 million compared to £82 million in the whole of 2007. Planning approvals so far in the area are valued at £11 million.
Social housing and industrial have performed well. Social housing is valued at £44 million for the year compared to £51 million for the whole of last year.
The value of industrial contracts stands at £33 million compared to £31 million last year, according to Glenigan. The value of planning approvals for industrial is clocked at £86 million compared to £84 million last year.
Hotel and leisure looks set for a big year if planning approvals are anything to go by. The sector is performing strongly at £38 million compared to £31 million for the whole of last year. Planning approvals for hotel and leisure are currently valued at £97 million.
Retail stands at just £19 million compared to £54 million last year with planning approvals so far valued at £34 million.
