One of the country's best known concrete contractors now carries out nearly two-thirds of its work in fit-out and interiors.
The latest report and accounts from Hertfordshire firm John Doyle reveal that over £100 million of its £168 million turn-over last year was in these two areas.
While the amount of work at its construction business edged up just three per cent in 2007 to £58.6 million, revenue from its Ibex interiors and fit-out business ballooned nearly 100 per cent to £106.6 million.
Chief executive Rob Johnson said: "We've been doing more fit-out in the past few years than construction. It's always been a bit of misconception that we're just a concrete business."
He said work would be more evenly split in 2008.
Mr Johnson said its different range of businesses prompted it to rename as Doyle Plc last week, although the John Doyle Construction marque will be kept for its concrete business.
Its fit-out business concentrates on carrying out work for Government departments along with education deals.
The firm, which is understood to be talking to Mace about the concrete contract on the Shard of Glass building in London, valued at up to £60 million, said it expected a lull in the big speculative office schemes once the current crop of buildings had been built.
Mr Johnson said Doyle was interested in 2012 Olympics work but so far the major concrete jobs have gone to Byrne Bros on the main stadium, with Getjar believed to be lined up for the aquatics centre.
