Trump golf course opposed by residents
Donald Trump’s plans to build a £1 billion luxury golf resort in Aberdeenshire have met with hostility from a famous face - Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton.
Ms Swinton, who owns a property in Nairn, in the neighbouring county of Moray, has joined a 14,000-strong petition to back four residents who face eviction if the golf complex goes ahead.
She said the Trump Organisation was “bullying” the residents. But the tycoon’s Scotland representative, George Sorial, accused the actress of siding with “extremists” and of not having enough information to get involved.
Planning permission has been approved to build the golf course on a stretch of coast that is considered environmentally-sensitive.
Four residents have refused to sell their homes to make way for the development, but the council has not ruled out Compulsory Purchase Orders to remove them against their will. They have appealed to the council not to resort to these measures.
The development is designed to include 500 houses and 950 holiday homes.
