New construction orders drop by 15pc

New construction orders in the three months to August fell by 15 per cent compared with the previous three month period according to Office of National Statistics figures.

Private housing orders fell by 33 per cent compared with the previous three month period and 48 per cent compared with the same period a year earlier.

Orders in the 12 months to August 2008 fell 7 per cent compared with the previous 12 months and orders in three months to August 2008 fell by 18 per cent compared with the same period a year earlier.

Infrastructure orders in the three months to August 2008 rose by 30 per cent compared with the previous three month period, and rose by 59 per cent when compared with the same three month period a year earlier.
