Govt wants 23,111 new homes a year in North-west

A new strategy to direct long-term housing and economic growth in the North-west, including the development of 413,000 new homes, has been announced by Government.

Communities minister Baroness Andrews said the North West of England Plan set out goals to deliver 23,111 houses a year until 2021.

She said the largest need for new home construction would come from Manchester, Salford and Liverpool.

Other towns highlighted as priorities include Blackburn, Blackpool, Bolton, Preston and Wigan.

Baroness Andrews said: "If more homes are not built now the housing ladder will get even further out of reach.

"The plan sets out an achievable vision for reducing the social and economic disparities in the region while protecting its distinctive character and environment."

Publication of the final plan follows comprehensive public consultation and an independent examination process.
