Company and director fined over worker fall

Demolition company Wooldridge Ecotec and director Nicholas Anderson have been fined a total of £20,000 after a worker suffered a broken pelvis in a fall in 2005.
The City of London Magistrates Court heard electriction Barry Murrell had been seriously injured when he plunged 5.5m through a hole – which had been covered by steel sheet material – at the former Pirelli Cables factory in Erith, in South-east London.
He not only suffered a broken pelvis, but a fracture to his right hip, shattered hip socket and a broken rib.
Surrey-based Wooldridge Ecotec pleaded guilty to a safety breach and was fined £15,000 and ordered to pay £4,971 in costs.
Mr Anderson also pleaded guilty. He was fined £5,000 with costs of £1,657.
