Decision to be made on £10.7m lift contract

A proposed £10.7 million contract to repair and refurbish all the lifts in Brighton and Hove City Council's social housing blocks will be decided on by cabinet on Wednesday.

Housing cabinet member Maria Caulfield will make a decision on whether to tender for a nine-year agreement that would enable major work to be done to lifts that need it, as well as minor repairs and maintenance.

Councillor Caulfield said: "We need to inject real investment in our lifts to ensure they are reliable and can be fixed quickly. We want to make sure we get a good contract that minimises cases of lifts being out of action for a considerable time."

If agreed, the tender would be drawn up with a new contractor next January.
