Mears clinches £170m social work

Social housing contractor Mears has secured two contracts worth a total of £170 million.
The firm will provide responsive repairs and planned maintenance for Metropolitan Housing Trust under a 10-year sole partner contract worth £157 million.
The trust owns over 30,000 properties across London and the Midlands. Work is due to start in October.
Mears has also been awarded a four year partnership with Bracknell Forest Homes to carry out Decent Homes work. The £13 million deal will cover works across the associations 5,600 properties.
Mears chief executive Bob Holt said: "The first six months of 2008 has been a record breaking for Mears in terms of new contract wins.
"Our order book now stands at £1.6 billion and the visibility of future revenues has been enhanced. We are confident of further tender success in the near future."
The deals bring the firms total contract wins over the last four months to £340 million.
