Masterplans for the £175 million redevelopment of Huddersfield town centre have been extended to include a new technical college.
If the plans get the green light from Kirklees Council, developer Strategic Sites working with DLG architects, will transform the industrial area into a sustainable mixed-use development.
The project will include Huddersfield Technical College building (330,000sqft) and new low energy public sector offices.
Known as the waterfront quarter, the 8 acre site is a one of the largest urban regeneration projects in the country.
The plans for the area – located between Manchester Road and Chapel Hill – were originally approved in September 2006 but have since undergone several facelifts.
The revised proposals also include 309 residential apartments, offices buildings, a crèche facility, leisure centre and 609 car parking spaces.
Kirklees Council's member for regeneration councilor Ken Sims said: "This is a significant regeneration opportunity for that part of the town.
"It will transform the area and provide a unique mix of housing units, commercial and office space, together with restaurants and other facilities."
If approved, work could begin on the project in the 2009.
