Credit crunch claims Leeds tower scheme

A £200 million tower scheme in Leeds has been mothballed as the credit crunch continues to cripple the residential sector.

Developer KW Linfoot yesterday confirmed that it would be halting work on its 173m tall Lumiere twin tower scheme in Wellington Street in Leeds city centre.

In March this year Carillion signed a £155 million construction deal for the project, which would have seen the firm build 952 homes in two towers of 55 and 33 storeys.

But, having completed piling work for the towers, the firm will now pull off site until market conditions improve.
