“It’s MIPIM... but not as we know it”
“I think there’s definitely more optimism here than [there was] last year,” London mayor Boris Johnson declared as he give his whirlwind keynote speech to a packed auditorium at the 21st MIPIM conference in Cannes last week. But it was a statement that undoubtedly left the flock divided, with in fact more groans to be heard amongst the crowd than cheers.

Construction has never got the attention and support that many other industries have had. As chief construction adviser Paul Morrell told CN last month the industry is often misunderstood by politicians – as a result it comes across to Government as though it doesn’t have a plan for its own future

When it just doesn't add up
John Spanswick is right. The Health and Safety Executive’s new figures on construction deaths for last October and November certainly do raise alarm bells.

Perhaps it is unsurprising the Ministry of Justice’s plans for an overhaul of limitation periods were scrapped.
