The housebuilder recently posted a 113 jump in pre-tax profit, alongside a slight dip in revenues and completions.

In the previous financial year, Barratt sold 960 homes in Scotland.

Barratt Scotland regional director Douglas McLeod said the firm was “optimistic about 2013.”

“Our existing sites are selling well and these 17 new sites are all in excellent locations, and we expect the homes to be sold quickly by buyers keen to move to a new home this year.”

“Buyer confidence is steadily improving and we are seeing encouraging demand for our homes.”

Around 450 homes are to be built at four developments near Aberdeen, with a further 600 at Inverurie.

A further five new sites are to come on stream in the Edinburgh area, including 232 new homes on Brunswick Road.

New developments in the West of Scotland are planned at Clydebank, Cumbernauld, Bellshill, Kilsyth, Coatbridge and Kilmarnock.
