Crossrail to hire contractors through CompeteFor

Contractors bidding for work on Crossrail will be able to use the online “business dating agency” CompeteFor.

The system, which was developed by the London Development Agency on behalf of the Government for the Olympic Delivery Authority, allows companies to register as potential suppliers online.

CompeteFor then notifies them of any contracts that are suitable which come up for tender and also matches companies with local Business Link support services to help boost the long-term competitiveness of business across the UK.

A Crossrail spokesman said: “As part of the Greater London Authority family and in line with other major projects in London, Crossrail intends to use the CompeteFor initiative in its procurement activities.”

Earlier this year the LDA said it will roll out CompeteFor to be used for procuring all its work, as well as that for London Boroughs.

The move was designed to help small and medium enterprises win public sector work.

Other Government organisations, including the Office of Government Commerce and the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, have also been talking to the ODA about using the system.

Meanwhile, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games has revealed it will launch tenders for its overlay commodities contracts towards the end of the year.

Speaking at the Emap Games Briefing LOCOG head of procurement Richard Mould said: “The contract will include things such as the temporary buildings, seating and fencing.”

All these will be temporary and contracts will include the dismantling of the commodities.
