North Wales water gets £100m investment

Welsh Water is to invest more than £100 million to upgrade water treatment works in North Wales.

The company said its framework partners would begin the works to upgrade the 13 plants at the end of the year although most of the planned work is due to be completed between 2010 to 2015.

Design work for improving Mynydd Llandygai, Cwellyn and Rhiwgoch treatment works is well advanced and construction is due to start in the new year.

Welsh Water's operations director Peter Perry said: "The big challenge we face is that we are implementing 28 major civil engineering projects as part of our Drinking Water Safety Plans over a relatively short period, because we are adapting to changing circumstances."

Welsh Waters framework partners are Costain, Laing O'Rourke, Black and Veatch, Imtech, Morgan Est, Kelda Water Services and Morrison Construction.
